Spring is coming...and that's good and bad

I know that spring is on its way.

Doris at Hedgerow House down the road, has started putting items hedge for people to take away. This week's offering was what appeared to be a cheese cutter, though to be honest, it was a little difficult to see exactly what it was, except there was some kind of blade. I was going to take a picture of it, but there was Doris, peering out the window at seven in morning, and I was already looking conspicuous enough. By the time I returned from work, someone had made off with the cheese cutter. It came to mind that Doris is probably writing a blog about people who remove stuff from her hedge, and no doubt she describes a weird woman who frequently approaches the hedge, camera in hand, trying to look nonchalant whilst examining the items on display.

Second confirmation that spring is on its way : those darned freebie newspapers are being thrown on to the path again. This time each one was rolled up and secured with an elastic band, so that it can be thrown from a car. Their aim is not good. Ours landed in the flower bed and missed the front steps. What would be best if they happened to throw it when I was leaving the house, as it would come flying back at them. I think I am a better shot than they are. More annoying though, is that they aren't using common sense with their distribution policy. The elderly woman's house two doors down now has at least three or four papers on the front path. She hardly ever goes out as she can't negotiate the steps. I don't know why they distribute the paper in our neighbourhood. We practically get waylaid at the blog train station with people trying to give us newspapers. At home, when delivered, we just dump the paper in the recycling container. Maybe I should just put the waste paper bucket out front and a sign saying "Chuck your delightful paper in here, matey."
